SPONSORS
Fr. P.C. and Rosamma Varghese,
parents of a totally handicapped daughter, Janey, are the prime sponsors
of the project. They have decided to devote their time and good part
of the their earnings for this humanitarian cause established in the name
of their only child. Fr. Varghese took early retirement from his
highly paid job overseas and returned to Kerala early 1994 and has been
voluntarily managing the Centre full time ever since.
Janey Foundation,
Inc., a registered non-profit corporation in the
United States, was in the forefront for the establishment of the Janey
Center and has been financing its operation ever since. The foundation
was incorporated by few Good Samaritan Keralites of the Washington metropolitan
area, with Fr.Varghese himself at its helm. Financial support for the major
part of the establishment at the Janey Centre today came through the good
offices of the Foundation. Keralites in the USA have happily opened their
purses and helped the Foundation in its efforts at the Centre.
INVESTING
IN THE JANEY CENTRE
Nearly
one hundred thousand mentally disabled people live in Kerala, but only
less than 10 percent is given some kind of rehabilitative service.
Janey Centre’s present and future programs will help the mentally handicapped
children and their families to plan for a better future. The Centre is
eager to expand its current activities and student strength. This
has not been possible so far because of the paucity of funds. It
is not in receipt of any financial assistance from the State or Central
Government raises funds entirely through contribution from Good Samaritans.
The Board of trustees and
staff of the Janey Centre wish to make a humble request to the more
fortunate members of the society and business organizations to contribute
liberally to this humanitarian cause. Public support is vital if the centre
wants to expand its project network to meet more of the colossal
demands for its services. Contributions are exempted from income
tax.
