Present Programs

The Centre’s present programs try to rehabilitate older children through a Vocational Program, and serve infants below age five through an Early Intervention Program. The Vocational Program emphasizes life skills development by making candles, garlands, plastic and cotton flowers, ladies’ purse, Christmas cards, curio items, dish washing powder, medicinal covers  etc.; profit out of the sale of these products are distributed to the children, thereby giving them the feeling that they are also productive members of the society.  The Early Intervention Program provides physical therapy and other related services, and trains the parents to repeat the process at home. Those parents who cannot bring the children to the Centre are trained at their homes by the Centre’s staff.   With assistance from the PTA, the Centre is providing free lunch and medicine to poor children.  It has started a monthly publication Punerjeni (meaning new birth) to fight for the rights of the handicapped.

EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM

Clinic based Delivery aims at providing children below age of  five years with physical therapy and other remedial measures, both at the centre and at home, in the latter the teachers visit homes of the mentally  disabled and train parents. A feedback is obtained when the parents attend the quarterly group sessions at the centre.

COUNSELLING CENTRE
Many parents of the mentally handicapped carry certain taboos and superstitions about their children’s mental handicap.  They believe that mental handicap is God’s punishment for parental sins.  It takes strong professional counseling to make them realize the real reasons of mental handicap. For this purpose the Janey Centre has a Counseling Centre headed by an individual with a terminal degree in Counseling and two medical doctors, Pediatrician and Psychologist. Free Counselling is provided by experts on a one-on-one basis to help them cope up with their personal/ family problems.

THE MONTHLY PUBLICATION PUNERJENI can create community awareness about the problems of the mentally disabled. Create possible outlook towards their problems and provide  information about available welfare measures.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND FREE LUNCH  The Centre Charges only very  nominal fees for its services, and that too from only those who can afford  to pay. Poor students are excepted from paying fees of all kinds and are provided free lunch and medical aid.
