Centre
It is
a day school for mentally disabled children located in the suburb of Kochi,
Kerala, India. It is a non-profit organization, registered under
the Charitable Societies Act of the Kerala State. -The Centre, started
in 1992 with just 10 disabled children in a rented accommodation, has since
grown to the present size where nearly 75 children are being trained.
It owns half an acre of land with a fairly large building. The training
is conducted by 10 specially trained teachers, two teachers’ aides, a Social
Worker, an Early Intervention specialist, a part time Physical Therapist,
Speech Therapist and dance teacher. The Centre owns its own bus to
transport children to and from their homes.
Mission
The Mission is to rehabilitate
mentally disabled children by preparing them for greater self-sufficiency
and independent living, and to make them productive members of the society.
Kerala State, about the size of Switzerland with the population of Canada,
has over one million disabled children, only about 10% receiving any kind
of rehabilitative service.
